Charles has a medical degree from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Nigeria, completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the West African College of Surgeons (Fellow WACS). He also has a Master in Public Health from the University of Liverpool, Diploma in Reproductive Health for Developing Countries (DRH) and PhD from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

Prior to joining LSTM, Charles was a lecturer and specialist obstetrician at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Nigeria.

Charles has conducted research and provided technical assistance in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ethiopia, Somaliland and United Kingdom.

Charles has several academic and research collaborations with Universities in Nigeria, Kenya, Denmark, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Ethiopia and the United States of America.
