At the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health (CMNH), volunteers play an essential role in our work. International Volunteer Day is celebrated on 5th December each year. Today, we would like to thank the many dedicated volunteer midwives, doctors and healthcare providers who have supported our work in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) throughout 2018. Without their support, many of our programmes which strive to end preventable maternal deaths, stillbirths and early neonatal deaths and improve the health of mothers and babies in LMIC, would simply not be possible. We are very thankful for their time, expertise and commitment.

Terry Kana, Senior Research Associate, CMNH:
“The volunteers who help facilitate the Emergency Obstetric Care trainings bring their expertise and many years of working in midwifery, obstetrics, paediatrics and anaesthesia both to our work in the UK and our programmes implemented in LMIC. Their enthusiasm, motivation and altruism makes them excellent role models and helps CMNH deliver high quality programmes which strengthens capacity and improves the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals working in maternity settings.
